Three journeys. Thousands of kilometres. And a Ukraine discovered together.

Over the past year, the Ukraine in a Backpack project brought together teenagers from different parts of Ukraine for three educational journeys across the country.

They travelled through Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Chernivtsi, Khotyn, the Carpathians, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Zakarpattia and many other places. They visited universities and museums, explored Ukrainian history and traditions, met inspiring people, learned traditional crafts, hiked in the mountains and discovered places many of them had never seen before.

Three journeys. Thousands of kilometres. And a Ukraine discovered together.

But Ukraine in a Backpack was never simply about travelling.

Each journey became a space for learning, friendship and discovery. A chance for young people to see their country beyond textbooks — through its cities and landscapes, its culture and traditions, and most importantly, through the people who preserve and shape it today.

Along the way, a group of teenagers from different backgrounds became a community. They learned together, supported one another, shared new experiences and created friendships that continued long after each journey ended.

And perhaps this became the most important discovery of all: while exploring Ukraine, they were also discovering themselves, their strengths and the possibilities ahead.

Ukraine in a Backpack, with our main partners Children of Heroes Charity Fund, BGV Charity Fund, is a journey through the country — but also a journey towards belonging, confidence and a deeper connection with Ukraine. 💙💛
